Jacob has a Bone Graft - Part 2

A step-by-step from Mom's point of view (continued)

Awake at last, Jacob is ravenous! Welcome to the world of full liquid diet! His six-course meal consists of Jell-O, broth, pudding, 7-Up, apple juice, and ice cream. Needless to say, it took a couple of sittings to finish this meal.

Sneaking a peek at the donor site for the bone graft. I was very surprised at how tiny the incision actually is.

Just 12 hours after surgery, Jacob is up and walking around - complete with one of his favorite hospital toys: a glove balloon. (No, he couldn't blow it up for himself. I blew it up for him this time.)

A visit to the playroom on the first night of surgery. He read a magazine, then played some board games with me before going back to his room for a rest.

Back at home in 28 hours.

He is eating his first meal at home after discharge -

...spaghetti and meat balls frappe, osterized peas, and milk.

Six days post op. One little stitch is removed from the donor site on the hip and the graft site in the mouth passes inspection.

One more week of food restrictions and life returns to normal!!

Jacob's bone graft was successful!! Click the links below to read about the pre- and post-op regimen Jacob took on to help the success of his bone graft, and also some liquid diet recipes.
